In order to comply with US export regulations, users outside of the USA must download the “IDL virtual machine” from Harris Geospatial. The IDL virtual machine is required to run ThroughFocus3. You will have to register for an account before you can download. Please do so with this link: Harris Geospatial Registration. Approval may take 24 hours. (Please record your user name and password for the subsequent download step.)
Following registration, you can download the IDL here with this link: IDL Downloads Page [Windows].
Install that software and then begin the download of ThroughFocus3, as described below.
Windows Version Download Link (version 3.161111)
- Download and expand the .zip archive linked above, which contains the ThroughFocus3 folder.
- Place the folder in a location where applications are normally stored, such as the Program Files directory [Win7].
- Launch the program by double-clicking ThroughFocus3.exe [Win7]. (You may be given a security warning asking you to allow the executable program to run. Please do.) If you encounter a Runtime Error, please see the notes below.
- Click through the splash screens that appear.
- The first launch (only) will present you with the End User License Agreement. A warning message may also appear saying that the program is not yet licensed. Click through that if it does appear.
- The program will launch into a limited, 2-minute demo mode until it has been licensed.
- Instructions for licensing can be found here.
Notes:
- ThroughFocus3 (Win) has been developed on Windows7. Please let Ken know if you are running it on a different Windows version.
- The International Version is relatively new and installation is still being tested. In my experience these three files should be in the same folder:
- ThroughFocus3.exe
- IDL85 folder
- ThroughFocus3.ini
The .ini folder points to the location of the IDL85 folder. So if IDL85 is not located with the ThroughFocus3.exe file, you can modify the .ini. An alternate .ini file (in a zip archive) is available here Alternate .ini as an example. The alternate .ini points to the IDL85 folder in C:\Program Files\Exelis\
If these instructions are not clear, please contact Ken. Send detailed error messages, if appropriate, and/or screen captures and describe the situation as completely as possible.
